Tim Burford studied languages at Oxford University. In 1991, after five years as a publisher, he began writing guidebooks for Bradt, firstly on hiking in east-central Europe and then on backpacking and ecotourism in Latin America. He has now written nine original books for Bradt, stretching from Uruguay to Georgia, as well as the Rough Guides to Romania, Alaska and Wales. Burford also leads hiking trips in Europe’s mountains, takes any excuse to get on a bike and explore (whether in his hometown of Cambridge or further afield), flies only across oceans and as rarely as possible, and blogs at unraveltravel.org.
