Roger Norum is a social anthropologist with extensive experience writing on the people and societies of the Arctic. As a travel journalist, he has authored Bradt’s guidebook to Svalbard, plus others to Finland and Denmark, and won the silver medal for the British Guild of Travel Writers’ Travel Writer of the Year in 2010. He is currently academy researcher and associate professor at the University of Oulu (Finland) and a director of the European Citizen Science Association. He holds a doctorate in Social Anthropology from the University of Oxford, and previously read Near Eastern Studies at Cornell University. He is fluent in Norwegian, Russian and Finnish.
