Alexandra Richards (alexandrarichards.net; @alexandrarichardstravelwriter) grew up in Dorset, UK, where she developed a love of rural life, the natural world and outdoor pursuits. Richards is a freelance travel writer specialising in Mauritius, Rodrigues and Réunion, southwest England and Australia. She has special interests in Slow Food and Slow Travel, the natural world, conservation, travelling with children (she is passionate about giving her children an outdoor, adventurous childhood), and all things equestrian and countryside. Alex is the author of Bradt’s Mauritius guide, which also covers Rodrigues and Réunion. In 2004, she undertook a writing and photography assignment that involved travelling to Australia on a cargo ship and ended up living in the country for 15 years. In 2019, she returned to live in Dorset, the place she has always called home, prompting her to write Bradt’s Dorset (Slow Travel).
