Photographing the British Isles Competition 2026

Win a place on a photography workshop in London or the Cotswolds!

To celebrate the publication of Photography Weekends Britain, Bradt has teamed up with acclaimed photographer and author William Gray and the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) to create this exciting new competition. Your photos could win you a place on a photography workshop in London or the Cotswolds.

Who can enter?

The competition is open worldwide, to anyone aged 18 or over for whom photography is not their main employment or source of income. Employees of Bradt and winners of any previous photography competitions are not eligible. Previously published photos will not be eligible, but this does not include self-publishing (for example, on your own blog or social media). If you’re not sure whether you or specific photos are eligible, please email [email protected].

Is there an entry fee?

No. Entry is free and entrants receive a discount code for £5 off Photography Weekends Britain.

What are the categories?

You can enter up to 3 photos in total for the following categories:-

  • Landscape
  • Cities
  • Wildlife

You can choose how to spread your 3 entries across the 3 categories (so, for example, you could submit 3 photos in one category, or 2 photos in one category and one in another etc.)

You can also enter up to 5 photos in the Portfolio category. You can submit one photo in this category and also in another category.

Your photos should cover the British Isles in some shape or form. For this competition, we define the British Isles as the geographical entity that includes Britain, the island of Ireland, the Isles of Man and Wight and other islands (whether part of the UK or Crown Dependencies) around England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

How do I submit my entry and in what format? Are edited photos eligible?

You must submit each photo as a JPEG (minimum file size 2MB, maximum 3MB) to [email protected]. Each photo must have a title and details of where you took it. You must also advise your name, email, phone number and country of residence.

If you are shortlisted, we will ask you to resubmit the relevant photo(s) at high resolution (up to 10MB) with up to 50 words of explanatory text, along with the details of the camera.

If you are a finalist, we will ask you to resubmit (by WeTransfer) the original, unedited image(s) from the camera in JPEG or RAW format.

Editing in standard apps such as Lightroom and Photoshop, with adjustments to exposure, clarity, sharpness, saturation, denoise etc is acceptable. Entries which have used generative AI to change the subject matter itself are not eligible. Any previously published images will not be considered.

What are the prizes?

The winner in each category will receive one year’s membership of the Royal Photographic Society including membership of one special interest group.

(NB if a category winner is already an RPS member, they will receive £100 of book tokens.)

From the category winners, there will be an overall winner who wins a place on one of William Gray’s photography workshops in either London or the Cotswolds.

William Gray – author, Photography Weekends Britain
