#Ghana is also home to Lake Volta, the largest dam lake on the planet. The dozens of islands scattered throughout the lake see almost no visitors, and the only way to reach them is to brush up your bargaining skills (you’ll need them!) and negotiate with a local fisherman to punt you across. #Bradt #TRLT @shanboqol

Once again, you can’t update on an empty stomach! Fufu & groundnut soup: this stuff sticks with you for hours–so much so that Ghanaians won’t eat it much after 15.00, as it’s considered too heavy to eat even several hours before sleeping. #Ghana #Bradt (@shanboqol) #instatravel #travelgram

#Kente weaving is one of #Ghana’s most celebrated art forms, and I had the pleasure of visiting several workshops in the Ashanti and Volta regions. Both regions offer competing claims to being kente’s ‘true’ homeland, though whichever story you believe, the craftsmanship on display is stunning in either locale. Just outside of the northern city of Wa, no one is quite sure as to the exact age of the Nakore #Mosque, but most estimates place the mud-and-stick construction as neck-and-neck with its more famous counterpart at Larabanga, which is generally accepted to be more than 500 years old.
