North Cyprus Travel Guide – Expert tips and travel information on everything from Lefkosa hotels and restaurants to political history, ancient Roman sites and ruins. This guide also includes suggested itineraries, day trips and tours, wildlife, natural history, Buffavento, Girne, St Hilarion Castle, Bellapais Abbey, Kantara Castle, Salamis and Gazimagusa beaches.
About this book
Hike up to Buffavento, stroll through the cloisters of Bellapais Abbey or go barefoot on the golden sands of the Karpas Peninsula. Rugged North Cyprus offers charming unspoilt villages, deserted beaches and hidden monasteries – things of the past in the developed south. Revised and expanded, the eighth edition of North Cyprus reveals churches, castles, classical ruins and newly accessible sites. Accompanying this is an entertaining and in-depth overview of the ancient and modern history that has shaped this complex and divided island.
About the Author
Diana Darke first became interested in the Near East when she read Arabic at Oxford. For the last 29 years she has lived, worked and travelled extensively in Turkey and the Arab world, initially with the Foreign Office, then as an Arabic consultant. Work and pleasure have taken her to both sides of Cyprus on many occasions. This edition has been updated by Murray Stewart, who lived in North Cyprus in 2010-11 while working on the 7th edition and has returned for this 8th edition.
