Where the Tigris meets the Euphrates, find the site of Adam’s Garden of Eden.
About 75km northwest of Basra city, Querna is famous for being the possible site of the biblical Garden of Eden. Today, there is little there to remind one of paradise, and its recent history has been less than peaceful.
The hotel site has been improved in recent years, and tourists are starting to visit again. Adam’s Tree stands in the grounds. Although legend has it that this is the biblical tree of life, it is actually a somewhat sickly looking fig tree, more dead than alive. However, from the paved area around it there is a nice view of the coalescence of the Tigris and Euphrates, one clear and blue, the other sludgy and brown.
