Alvin Nicholas travelled extensively before returning to his native South Wales. Between organising adventures for his young family and writing travel books, he can frequently be found managing moorland in the high hills, hacking his way through woods or mountain biking. He has a passion for wild places and is inspired by rewilding projects that address biodiversity loss. During the 1990s Alvin studied countryside and protected landscape management at Aberystwyth University, indulged his fascination for African megafauna and became a mountain leader. He has worked in wildlife conservation ever since. The author of several guidebooks on topics ranging from folklore and archaeology to rural landscapes, his travel writing is guided by a belief that reconnecting people with nature promotes a healthier, happier, more productive life.
