Four areas of the Long Mynd, including Carding Mill Valley, have been classed as Dark Sky Discovery Sites by the UK Dark Sky Discovery Partnership, a network of astronomy and environmental organisations. This award means they are deemed fruitful places to view the stars, away from light pollution. They have the highest classification, ‘Milky Way Class’, meaning it is possible to see our own galaxy from there with the naked eye.
The approved sites are:
Cross Dyke car park, Burway Road
Pole Cottage
Shooting Box car park
Carding Mill Valley
