Every year the British Guild of Travel Writers host an awards dinner in London, celebrating their members’ achievements as well as examples of outstanding tourism projects.

2017’s ceremony saw a Bradt author take the top guidebook prize, as well as triumphs by the tourism products nominated by Bradt founder Hilary Bradt and MD Adrian Phillips.

Jini Reddy scooped up the Adele Evans Award for Best Guidebook for Wild Times, published in late 2016. Wild Times is a unique title that showcases the extraordinary experiences you can have connecting with nature around Britain, from barefoot walks to forest skills, prehistoric cookery to urban birding. All of the experiences offered are run by small, responsible ventures, and led by passionate, personable and enthusiastic guides and land practitioners.

Hilary Bradt’s choice for the Best UK & Ireland Tourism Project for 2017 was The Dartmoor Artisan Trail, a self-guided trail that links the most varied and interesting artisans in the area. In the Best Wider World Tourism Project for 2017 Adrian Phillips nominated Mandari Panga Yasuni Jungle Expeditions, from Ecuador. This grass-roots project seems to provide an alternative future for Ecuador’s Mandari Panga community in the face of pressure to sell oil drilling rights.

Adrian was also nominated in the Best Wider World Feature Over 850 Words, and came away Highly Commended for his piece A Wild, Rolling-Eyed Beast of a Route.
