The three finalists in our New Travel Writer of the Year competition, Sophy Downes, Suchita Shah, and Dom Tulett, joined representatives of Bradt, TravelLocal and Travellers’ Tales at the Edward Stanford Travel Writing Awards night in London Olympia’s Pillar Hall on Thursday 2nd February.
In front of a crowd of industry professionals and famous travel writers Tom Stapelton, TravelLocal’s joint Managing Director, took to the stage with our founder Hilary Bradt to announce who would be taking home one of the coveted Edward Stanford globe trophies.
Each of our finalists were hoping to win our big prize of a trip to Uganda courtesy of TravelLocal, but there could only be one winner…
Having triumphed over 125 other entrants, Dom Tulett was awarded top prize for “a masterful piece of writing” about his quest to see a tiger in the wild. You can read Dom’s story, as well as those written by our other finalists, here.
Perhaps the most exciting moment of the evening for Dom was meeting Michael Palin (recipient of the Outstanding Contribution Award for Travel Writing) as he left the venue, giving our ‘New Travel Writer of the Year’ a Twitter profile picture that will make him the cause of much envy!
