About this author
Gehan de Silva Wijeyeratne has played a pivotal role in branding Sri Lanka for its wildlife. He has had over 15 books and over 380 articles published. In the words of widely travelled British TV wildlife celebrity Bill Oddie, ‘no single individual has done so much to publicise a country for its wildlife as Gehan has done for Sri Lanka’. Based in London, he visits Sri Lanka at least once a year. He is a member of the council of London Natural History Society (LNHS) and Chairs the London Bird Club (a section of the LNHS). He was one of the principal photographic contributors to the London Bird Atlas. He is also a Trustee of the British Ornithologists Club (BOC). Gehan has been playing a role in raising awareness of how good London is for wildlife thanks to its network of nature reserves and the field events and indoor events of a number of London-centric nature organisations. He has been instrumental in using the London Bird Club’s publicity channels to cross-market the activities of multiple London-centric nature organisations.
