In Abruzzo, small, family-owned bed and breakfasts can sometimes become overshadowed by hotels set up by American organisations and staffed by English speakers. Because of this, such B&Bs begin to struggle to keep their customers – especially if the owners speak little English.

Therefore, the local economy, whilst certainly amongst the most stable in Italy, still needs a helping hand from visitors. Employment is definitely an issue and there is a way you might help. Though there are relatively few, avoiding the large hotel chains (especially the ones owned by the English-speaking nations of the world) means that your money will go towards helping Abruzzo’s economy.
