Tajan Nature Park
The thick conifer forests and endless tracks of hills and forest provide nature lovers with a wide range of activities.
This park was acknowledged as a protected area in 2010. A wonderful grassroots movement from environmental groups, mountain associations, caving clubs and nature lovers from the Zavidovići area has put a tremendous amount of energy into making this beautiful little corner of northern Bosnia a protected one. The mountains in this area aren’t like the towering peaks of the central Dinaric Alps. Nonetheless, the thick conifer forests and endless tracks of hills and forest provide nature lovers with a wide range of activities. As of 2017, much progress has been made but some things are still developing, so there might still be a few hitches organisation-wise. However, it should be mentioned that the knowledge and passion that have gone into the ecotourism development of this area are extraordinary and should be an example for the rest of the country.
Mountain biking in Tajan Nature Park is excellent. Owing largely to forestry roads, a large system of bike trails has been developed. Every year in May the hiking association organises a mountain-biking competition.
