Monte Lussari

Enjoy the breathtaking view from the 1,789m Monte Lussari.

The focal point of Circular Stage C4, the village and peak of Monte Lussari are quite something. The 1,789m summit itself is just a couple of minutes from the village – there’s a path up from behind the spectacularly located church – and the views from it are outstanding. If you’re carrying a picnic rather than eating at one of the village's restaurants, this is definitely the place to enjoy it.

The Sanctuary of Monte Lussari (Santuario del Monte Lussari) is also well worth a visit. Its history stretches back to the 14th century, when, it is said, a shepherd searching for his lost sheep found them crowded around a pine bush, inside which he discovered a statue of the Madonna and child. The shepherd took the statue to the parish priest, but the following morning it was found again on Monte Lussari, surrounded by sheep. A chapel was built at the place the statue was originally discovered, and replaced by a new building in 1500.
