Zambia - Giving something back

Giving something back

If you ask locally you’ll often find projects that need your support. Many lodges and camps also assist with community or wildlife projects, and will be able to suggest a good use for donations. All welcome donations – so make a resolution now to help at least one of them as an integral part of the cost of your trip.

Volunteering

Zambia, like many African countries, hasn’t been slow to take advantage of the upsurge in volunteering holidays. To set the ball rolling, contact The Book Bus, which takes volunteers to help operate their mobile library and reader mentoring service in Livingstone, Mfuwe and Kitwe. Meanwhile there are many pitfalls for unwary volunteers, so be sure to do your homework – especially if you are trying to get involved with a local community. An excellent place to start is www.ethicalvolunteering.org, which also has a downloadable pamphlet entitled The Ethical Volunteering Guide.
