Nile rafting near Jinja

Nile rafting Jinja Uganda by Nile River ExplorersTackle the spectacular rapids on the Nile River near Jinja © Nile River Explorers

Chaotic and turbulent, this area offers exhilarating white-water rafting perfect for any adrenaline junkie.

Rafting trips on the Nile are offered by three companies: Adrift, Nile River Explorers (NRE) and Nalubale Rafting. Rafting excursions can be booked directly with the rafting company, or through the Kampala Backpackers’ and Red Chilli hostels, or any tour operator.

All the rafting companies listed offer similar oneday itineraries starting on the West Bank of the river above Overtime Rapid and finishing near Hairy Lemon Island, about 20km downriver. The route includes eight Grade III-or-higher rapids, including the Grade V Overtime and Bad Place, and it also offers an opportunity to see a lot of different birds, and to swim in calm stretches of water. All companies charge US$125 for a full-day excursion inclusive of return transportation from Kampala or Jinja, buffet lunch, and beers and sodas. Two-day rafting trips are also available at a cost of US$200–240, with day two offering fewer rapids but plenty of opportunity for paddle-boarding.
