‘To Boldly Go’: Bradt’s 40th anniversary photo competition

Wanderlust magazine recently described Bradt as the ‘Captain Kirk of travel publishers’. We’re proud of our reputation for pioneering publishing and for encouraging tourists to explore new frontiers beyond the beaten track. And so, to mark our 40th anniversary (and embrace the Star Trek analogy, split infinitives and all), we’re launching the ‘To Boldly Go’ photographic competition – a celebration of adventurous, colourful and inquisitive travel.

Do you travel boldly? If so, send us your photos!

You don’t need to have climbed mountains or trekked far-flung deserts or ridden white-water rapids through soaring canyons (although those things certainly qualify!). For us, travelling boldly is simply about being curious enough to look past the usual tourist haunts and really engage with a destination.

Perhaps you stumbled across a secret city garden or threw yourself into a weird and wonderful festival or left your group to share a beer with a local. Perhaps, while everyone else was pointing their cameras at the Niagara Falls, you had the imagination to point yours in another direction. If you’ve explored rather than just visited – be that in the Congo or the Cotswolds – then this is the competition for you.

Do keep an eye on the Budapest Competition page on our website and our Facebook page - we'll be posting up the best of entries throughout the course of the competition entry period. The winner and runners-up will be announced by Friday 25th April 2014.

The prizes

First prize is a luxury break for two in Budapest, a place with some glorious hidden corners. The prize includes return flights and transfers, a three-night stay in one of the city’s top hotels, a half-day tour, two free city passes, two tickets to a thermal bath, two tickets to the Fine Arts Museum, and a copy of Budapest: The Bradt City Guide. Five runners-up will also receive Bradt’s Budapest guide.

How to enter

The competition is open to anyone. Each should be made by email to competitions@bradtguides.com, and include the subject heading 'Budapest Competition' and a daytime telephone number. Each entrant may submit a maximum of three photographs (one photo per email), and must have taken those photographs themselves. Each photograph should be saved with a file name of no more than 10 words in the following form: Entrant Name_Destination (eg: Joe Bloggs_A hidden courtyard in Budapest, Hungary). In addition, entrants should provide a short description (in the body of the email) in support of the attached photo to explain what it shows and why it is a prize-winning example of travelling boldly. The closing date for entries to reach us is midnight on Friday 18th April; the winner and runners-up will be informed by Friday 25th April 2014.
