Sean Connolly, author of our Senegal guidebook, has just returned from a research trip to Ghana (for the new 7th edition out later this year!) and he took over our Instagram feed to show off some of his photos.
Hello, author Sean Connolly (@shanboqol) here--I'll be taking over Bradt's Instagram for today to give you a peek into some of the highlights of my updating trip to #Ghana. Rule number 1 for man or beast--don't start the day on an empty stomach! Found this all-inclusive buffet while digging up some bus schedules in #Accra. #Bradt #TRLT
#Ghana is also home to Lake Volta, the largest dam lake on the planet. The dozens of islands scattered throughout the lake see almost no visitors, and the only way to reach them is to brush up your bargaining skills (you'll need them!) and negotiate with a local fisherman to punt you across. #Bradt #TRLT @shanboqol
#Kente weaving is one of #Ghana's most celebrated art forms, and I had the pleasure of visiting several workshops in the Ashanti and Volta regions. Both regions offer competing claims to being kente's 'true' homeland, though whichever story you believe, the craftsmanship on display is stunning in either locale. Just outside of the northern city of Wa, no one is quite sure as to the exact age of the Nakore #Mosque, but most estimates place the mud-and-stick construction as neck-and-neck with its more famous counterpart at Larabanga, which is generally accepted to be more than 500 years old. Visitors are warmly welcomed inside and can even climb up to the roof! (@shanboqol) #Ghana #Bradt #igtravel #igphoto #travelguide #instatravel #instaphoto
When a strangler fig loses (err...strangles) its host, you're given a rare perspective on how these majestic trees operate. We found this one (along with some energetic primate friends) at the Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary. (@shanboqol) #Ghana #Bradt #instaphoto #instatravel #travelguide #igphoto #igtravel
Hello, Sean Connolly (@shanboqol) here again--thanks for joining me on some of my travels through #Ghana today! I'm going to call it a night and ride off into the proverbial sunset so that I can get back to work on updating this book! As for riding off into a real sunset, there's no better place in Ghana than on a trail ride through the villages next to Lake Bosumtwi. #Ghana #Bradt #igtravel #igphoto #travelguide #instatravel #instaphoto
