Notes from the Authors
"To travel the Amazon from source to delta is the dream of many: one of the world’s great journeys. Others may prefer to strike out into the rainforest, or to explore countries on the outer edges of the Amazon Basin. Those in search of rainforests and wildlife should also consider visiting the pristine jungles of Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname, which, although they lie just beyond the watershed, offer some of the region’s least disturbed and most inaccessible rainforest.
Whatever style of trip you plan – whether a one-week riverboat trip or an extensive multi-country tour of the region – your experience will be unique. If you’re lucky you may see some of Amazonia’s elusive wildlife; more realistically you will come away with just some idea of the sheer scale of the Amazon and the region through which it flows. Whatever your reasons for choosing to visit there is certain to be an occasion when you stand in the rainforest or on your riverboat, mouth agape in disbelief. In Brazil they say ‘Opa’ – loosely translated as ‘Wow!’"
