Daniel Austin is a Madagascar specialist who has written a number of travel and wildlife guides to the country for Bradt. He visits Madagascar at least once a year to lead group tours, lecture on Indian Ocean cruises, and carry out research. Among his other connections with the island, Austin is a photographer specialised in Madagascar and its unique wildlife, secretary of the Anglo-Malagasy Society (which promotes the country’s interests in the UK) and founder of the Madagascar Library (an archive of over 7,000 historical and contemporary books and documents on all aspects of the island). Austin’s fascination with Madagascar stretches back to his childhood passion for nature. After focusing his Master's thesis on Malagasy culture, he turned to exploring the broader zoological, botanical, cultural, linguistic and historical wonders of this exotic Indian Ocean destination. He has lectured about Madagascar at the Royal Geographical Society, Oxford University and elsewhere.
