Paraguay is still largely undiscovered by travellers, but those who make their way here are delighted by the country's distinctive culture and strong indigenous features. A bilingual nation, with Guaraní spoken alongside Spanish, its folk-dance tradition is hugely popular among young people; its harp playing is legendary; and Paraguayans are proud of their different handicrafts, particularly their sewing. The country is also home to the historic Jesuit missions, or reductions (as depicted in the film The Mission).
Bradt's Paraguay – the only English-language guidebook to this emerging tourism destination – covers the region with unrivalled detail and knowledge. It delves deep into a country that has so far eluded the grasp of mass tourism and where rich indigenous culture and folk traditions still hold strong.
'Words fail me in attempting to praise adequately your masterly Bradt Guide to Paraguay which has been of inestimable help to me in my understanding of a country and a people which I had deluded myself that I already understood reasonably well.'
Adrian J. English, author of 'The Green Hell' and 'Paraguayan Revolutions of the XX Century'

'I have had the great pleasure of reading the Paraguay guidebook. It provides much more than the details a traveler might need -- on almost every page the author provides a sense of genuine affection for the country, along with a desire to share it with others. I congratulate her.' Lars Schoultz

It's a sweeping statement but Margaret Hebblethwaite's Bradt Guide to Paraguay is almost certainly the best guide book that I have ever encountered! The breadth of its coverage is astounding and goes far beyond the usual ratings of accomodation, restaurants, "how to get there" and internal travel, extending to the minutiae of the complex social mores in this fascinating and unique country. Anyone planning to visit Paraguay and who doesn't buy it is an idiot! If there was a ten star rating it richly deserves it!

'I can and must tell you that not only does [your book] have the merit of being an English guide - which is opportune and necessary - but it is an excellent guide in itself for its presentation and content. Very useful and instructive. I congratulate you most sincerely.'
